Technology Thursday: Awesome Apps for Teachers



    I am joining Teaching Trio for Technology Thursday. I have had a wonderful time at TETA.  I’ve learned so much this week and I still have one more day.  I wanted to share a few apps that I was introduced to today! 
The first app is called AR Flashcards. They have a couple different  paid versions, but the Alphabet version is free! I found this awesome video that shows what this awesome app does! 
This new kind of technology is called augmented reality.  If you search the App Store you find various types of augmented reality apps. 
Another awesome augmented reality app works with the 2013 and 2014 Guinness World Record Books!  The Guinness World Record App is free, so you only need to pay for the book. 
        Lastly, I want to share Grade Cam with you. Using bubble sheets you can print yourself, Gradecam allows you to grade multiple choice assignments  By logging in on your desktop 
computer you can then transfer the scores to your grade book with the touch of a button! The app is free for up to ten question quizzes. You can upgrade for up to 100 question quizzes. I really love the reports that are available. I love data and this provides lots of data.

Manic Monday Vocabulary Cube Freebie!

        I have been thinking about what words I should use for my vocabulary study in my classroom for the next year. I’ve used the words assigned by the reading series for a long time, but it is time for a change. I found a book “The Reading Teacher’s Book of Lists” by Edward B. Fry. Love this book! Using the book I picked words for weekly lists. Each list has 20 words. You can find all my lists at my Spelling City site.  The words on the list make up 65 percent of all written material.

I paid 29.95 for the book, but Amazon has it for much less. 
    For my freebie, I created a Vocabulary Cube for the week 1 list. Students can work together to match the sides of the cards to make a cube. Click on the picture below to get the freebie!

What Worked….What Didn't Work

What Worked!!!

Organizing all my supplies into this 5-drawer systems! 

Giving my students the opportunity to decide what work they were proud of and wanted hung on the wall. I provided a box for students to put work and another student changed out the work each week.

What didn’t work 🙁

I painted my tables and they looked so good until about February. I must have some nervous pickers, because I now have missing paint on several tables. Sadly, the tables are going into storage. I will have large class sizes next year and tables just won’t accommodate all them. Although, I’m sure some wouldn’t mind sitting in the floor!
